Up, up and away…

Up, up and away...

Not far from where I live is this really lovely park with many picnic areas. They’re very popular, especially on the weekends, for people to hold parties, have barbeques and maybe play some volleyball. Each grove is named after a kind of tree and usually has some kind of balloons, handmade sign or a combination of the two to direct the crowds towards the correct gathering.

More from White Oak Park…

This time of year really excites me. Spring brings a sense of promise, optimism and hope. I think that the frenzy of growing activity translates into an energy that’s something beyond the relief of it not being so cold anymore. Living in a part of the world where there are four very distinct seasons has really helped me appreciate and feel this renewal. When I lived in Singapore, I never really felt a change in seasons (well, that’s the tropics for you, I suppose). Even in Australia—where I spent my first 23 or so years in Perth and then Melbourne—it was never so obvious as the changes I see and feel here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I’m very thankful.

The dogs I met at the park today…

Spring is just starting to express its intentions here in Pittsburgh. At the dog park this means two things: more dogs to meet and photograph and muddy shoes. The latter is perfectly okay for short-haired breeds like this beagle here, but for dogs like Miro, my cocker spaniel:

…the mud gets all over his feet and ears. We spent about half an hour in the bath when we got home, just shampooing in between his toes. It’s worth it, though, to see the joy on his face, which in turn makes my head explode from the cuteness and puts me in a great mood for the rest of the day.

Miro’s not the only one enjoying the brisk, early Spring weather here:

“Ahhhhhhhhhhh”
Miro, spokesdog for local park goodness ;) .

Green tunnel

It’s 13 degrees (celsius!) today and I’m longing for walks again that include beautiful, lush green leaves and mysterious tunnels. This photo was taken last Summer in Highland Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I was shocked at the beauty of the place; it seemed so European. Highly recommended for a pleasant wander, picnic, laze about and sitting under a tree with a book. Daydreaming, ah.
